💥 What’s the Big Deal: 

The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, nestled in a dormant volcano near the center of Honolulu, Hawaii, is a testament to honor the American Service Members in the Pacific during World War II and the Korean War. On its grounds, the names of 18,095 American World War II missing from the Pacific and 8,210 Americans missing from the Korean War are inscribed on the Courts of the Missing. Additionally, two-half courts bear the names of 2,504 Americans missing from the Vietnam War. The cemetery serves as a place of Reflection, gratitude, and remembrance.

Memorial Day, a federal holiday held on the last Monday in May, is the nation’s annual day to mourn and honor its deceased servicemembers. Originally called Decoration Day, it was formalized by a “Memorial Day Order” issued by the Grand Army of the Republic Commander-in-Chief John A. Logan in 1868.
